a) What did the girls gift Mrs March for Christmas?
Jo gave Mrs.March a pair of slippers, Beth gave her a handkerchief, Amy gave her a bottle of cologne and Meg gave her a pair of gloves.

Mr. Lawrence, the rich neighbour of the March’s sent ice cream, cake, fruit and bonbons
and four bouquets of beautiful flowers as a token of his appreciation for the March girls
who gave up their breakfast on Christmas morning to feed the poor Hummels.
c) Describe Mr Lawrence. Do you really think he was as cold as people thought him to be? Give reasons.
Mr. Lawrence was a rich old man. He was the neighbour of the March’s. He was believed
to be a proud man who did not like to mix with the neighbours. It was believed that he
made his grandson study hard with the tutor. However, his act of sending flowers and goodies to the March household makes him a sensitive, caring man.
d) Write a short note on Mrs March.
Mrs. March ran her household with limited resources as her husband, a chaplain was with the soldiers at the battlefront. Mrs. March was a selfless and caring woman who first visited a poor family on Christmas morning. She loved her girls and was very appreciative of their little gifts. She was confident that her girls would give up their breakfast for the poor family when she asked them and they did.
e) "That's loving our neighbour better than ourselves," said Meg, as they set out their presents. Explain what Meg meant by this.
“That’s loving our neighbour better than ourselves.” On their mother’s request the girls
packed their Christmas breakfast and took it to feed a poor family and they themselves
ate milk and bread for breakfast. They put the needs of the poor neighbours before their
own.This act showed their love and gave them happiness.
